A balanced palate which builds in the mouth. The pear fruits are followed by a rich a rich and powerful mid palate. There is complexity and texture, which are held In balance by the fine acid structure. The wine is fresh, clean and exhibits a very long finish. A wine that drinks well now but will develop into a far more complex wine over the next 1O years or so.
"Lifted notes of perfumed honeysuckle and other stone fruit influences. The palate is pure and dean with a refreshing acidity. Long finish with flavours of honey and peach nectar restrained by piercing acidity". 91/100
Ray Jordan's,The West Australian Wine Guide 2014,
The Marsanne is about complexity and texture, getting ripe fruit flavours to sit harmoniously with these characters.
We harvest the grapes between 13-13.5 degrees/Be. Harvested at night, pressings are kept separate, fined and added back to the wine if deemed of sufficient quality. This provides maximum flavour. Approximately 15% of the juice is barrel fermented in new French oak barriques. Minimal fining is used (skim milk),filtration is also kept to a minimum and bottling carried out as soon as possible
We employ a very traditional grape growing approach, mindful of the need to be sustainable. Our vines are irrtgated and grown on VSP trellising. The trellis system has a north-south orientation with 3.8 metre row, and 1.5 metre vine spacing. Vine canopies are hand manipulated with extensive shoot thinning to ensure low yields. Hand harvesting of grapes optimises the selection of the highest quality grapes for our winemaking.
